Mission Statement
The Building Officials Association of Texas is dedicated to enhancing the professionalism of its members, advancing the standards of the building industry, and leading in the resolution of public policy issues.
Awards and Scholarships

The Building Officials Association of Texas (BOAT) presents the following annual awards and scholarships at their annual meeting:

Building Official of the Year (Jim Whatley Award) - This award was established to honor outstanding professionals in the field. The award will only be given to a Building Official (a manager in charge of construction code enforcement). The nominee should be an individual who is dedicated to life safety and public welfare. Building Official of the Year Application

BOAT Scholarship - In an effort to recognize outstanding students and to promote further education and training, BOAT offers scholarships to families of municipal inspection department personnel who have been members of BOAT for at least three years. The scholarship is also available for any municipal inspection department employee planning to further his/her education who has been an active member of BOAT for at least three years. Scholarship Application

Code Professional of the Year:
Awarded to individuals who provide service to protect public health, safety and general welfare as they relate to the construction, occupancy of buildings and structures, and maintenance of those structures and communities. To include but not limited to Permit Technicians, Plans Examiners, Inspectors, Supervising Inspectors, Building Officials, Code Enforcement Officers, Fire Officials. Nominations are accepted from a Director, Building Official, Mayor, or City Manager. Code Professional of the Year

Administrative Professional:
Awarded to those individuals on the front line or rear echelon who diligently promote and enhance service delivery to the citizens of Texas. Nominations accepted from a Director, Building Official, Mayor, or City Manager. In 150 words or less, write a recommendation with justification to boatawards@tml.org.

Excellence in Code Enforcement:
Municipality or organization which promotes/enhances/ and takes steps necessary to provide world class service delivery through certification/education/ quality inspection processes. Nominations accepted from any member of any Municipality. In 150 words or less, describe the qualities that make this Code Enforcement department worthy of this award and submit to boatawards@tml.org.

Texas Chapter of the Year:
Greatest contributions to enhance and promote code officials across the state. Nominations accepted from any member of any Chapter. In 150 words or less, describe the contributions this chapter has made to enhance and promote code officials and public safety across the state and submit to boatawards@tml.org.

Public Official of the Year:
Merit award for those public officials which promote safety in the built environment. Anyone can nominate any Public Official who stands out as a promoter of public safety in the built environment. In 150 words or less, describe this persons contribution to safety and the built environment and submit to boatawards@tml.org.
