Jim Olk
Building Official
City of Farmers Branch

Jim Olk, CBO is currently the Building Official for the City of Farmers Branch, Texas. Jim has been employed with the City of Farmers Branch for 13 years and prior to Farmers Branch, Jim worked for the City of University Park, Texas for 10 years. In both municipalities Jim managed both the Building Inspection Department and the Code Enforcement Department.

Jim is the immediate Past President of BOAT and served from 2005 through 2007 as President. Prior to his presidency Jim served on the BOAT Board for 5 years. Jim attended the engineering program at the University of Houston and has served or is currently serving in the following capacities:

  North Central Texas COG Regional Code Coordinating Committee – Board Member

Jim holds multiple ICC certifications and is a Licensed Plumbing Inspector and a Licensed Code Enforcement Officer with the State of Texas. Jim is often invited to speak to groups of industry professionals on implementation of proactive code enforcement programs and co-authored the Housing, Property Maintenance, and Code Enforcement Inspection Programs chapter in the newly redrafted Building Department Administration – 3rd Edition.
