A RESOLUTION OF THE BUILDING OFFICIALS ASSOCIATION OF TEXAS CONCERNING JIM OLK, CHIEF BUILDING OFFICIAL FOR THE CITY OF GARLAND

WHEREAS, the Building Officials Association of Texas Board of Directors and its members are assembled at the Annual BOAT Conference in Amarillo, Texas, on August 7-10 2018; and,

WHEREAS, we do hereby pay tribute to BOAT past Board Member and past President, Jim Olk, Chief Building Official, City of Garland; and,

WHEREAS, this award recognizes his leadership, commitment, and contribution to BOAT as a Board and committee member for more than 20 years; and,

WHEREAS, this award recognizes his leadership, commitment, and contribution to ICC and the Texas Municipal League through service on numerous committees and testimonies; and,

WHEREAS, Jim has provided leadership and mentoring to many subsequent Board members, and lasting leadership for the future of this Chapter; and,

WHEREAS, this resolution names Jim Olk, Chief Building Official, City of Garland, to the BOAT Hall of Fame;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that we extend our most sincere appreciation to Jim Olk for his contributions to the safety and security of the public in the built environment. This resolution shall take effect from and after its passage by the membership.

A RESOLUTION OF THE BUILDING OFFICIALS ASSOCIATION OF TEXAS CONCERNING LAWRENCE CROW, FORMER FIELD OPERATIONS MANAGER FOR THE CITY OF IRVING

WHEREAS, the Building Officials Association of Texas Board of Directors and its members are assembled at the Annual BOAT Conference in Amarillo, Texas, on August 7-10, 2018; and,

WHEREAS, we do hereby pay tribute to BOAT past Board Member and past President, Lawrence Crow, retired from the City of Irving; and,

WHEREAS, this award recognizes his commitment and contribution to creating, expanding and continually improving BOAT’s educational programs; and,

WHEREAS, with Lawrence’s help, the Building Professionals Institute has grown to four locations around the state; and,

WHEREAS, without the tremendous commitment and efforts from Lawrence, the program would not be as organized, responsive and productive as it is today; and,

WHEREAS, multiple communities have benefited from Lawrence’s leadership in providing quality education to staff; and,

WHEREAS, Lawrence has provided leadership and mentoring to many of the past and current Board members and lasting leadership for the future of this Chapter; and,

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that we extend our most sincere appreciation to Lawrence Crow for his contributions to the safety and security of the public in the built environment. This resolution shall take effect from and after its passage by the membership.

A RESOLUTION OF THE BUILDING OFFICIALS ASSOCIATION OF TEXAS CONCERNING SCOTT McDONALD, DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT SERVICES /CHIEF BUILDING OFFICIAL FOR THE CITY OF DENTON

WHEREAS, the Building Officials Association of Texas Board of Directors and its members are assembled at the Annual BOAT Conference in Amarillo, Texas, on August 7-10, 2018; and,

WHEREAS, we do hereby pay tribute to BOAT past Board Member, past President and retiring TML Representative, Scott McDonald Director of Development Services/Chief Building Official, City of Denton; and,

WHEREAS, this award recognizes his commitment and contribution to expanding and continually improving BOAT’s image and impact on the State of Texas and the nation; and,

WHEREAS, multiple communities have benefited from Scott’s leadership in this Chapter, at ICC and with the Texas Municipal League; and,

WHEREAS, Scott has been a contributing member of the Board of Directors of BOAT for the last 15 years and is ending his term as the TML Representative;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that we extend our most sincere appreciation to Scott McDonald for his contributions to the safety and security of the public in the built environment. This resolution shall take effect from and after its passage by the membership.

A RESOLUTION OF THE BUILDING OFFICIALS ASSOCIATION OF TEXAS CONCERNING TIM LITTLEJOHN, CITY OF ABILENE

WHEREAS, the Building Officials Association of Texas Board of Directors and its members are assembled at the Annual BOAT Conference in Amarillo, Texas, on August 7-10 2018; and,

WHEREAS, we do hereby pay tribute to BOAT Member and Building Official for the City of Abilene, Texas, Tim Littlejohn; and his staff; and

WHEREAS, this resolution recognizes Tim Littlejohn and his staff’s commitment and contribution for their support of the International Code Council’s (ICC) Military Families Career Path Program and the City of Abilene’s efforts in promoting the Building Safety Industry as a valuable career option for transitioning military veterans; And,

WHEREAS, In 2017, the ICC Military Families Career Path Program reached out to Veteran, Air Force Chief Master Sergeant John A. Hammonds who was based at Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene, and,

WHEREAS, Tim Littlejohn arranged a ride-along program with the City of Abilene Building Inspections Department to introduce Chief Master Sergeant Hammonds to the myriad of options in the building safety industry, And,

WHEREAS, Kelly Sadler, ICC Government Relations Regional Manager, said that, “Abilene city officials, and Tim Littlejohn, could not have been more cooperative in helping support the Military Families Career Path Program.”  And,

WHEREAS, Tim Littlejohn, and the Abilene city staff, were integral to organizing this hands-on introduction to the building industry for Chief Hammonds as well as to coordinating ride-alongs with two other Veterans to date, and are committed to be a continued resource for transitioning military. And,

WHEREAS, Chief Hammonds said, “I’m sold. I’ll start tomorrow as a building official or inspector. I’ve been proudly protecting the safety of the United States for most of my life, so I’d be proud to keep doing it through the building industry.” And,

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that we extend our most sincere appreciation and honor the City of Abilene and Tim Littlejohn, Abilene CBO, for his contributions to the safety and security of the public in the built environment, and particularly the ICC Military Families Career Path Program which helps veterans who are transitioning to civilian life and their family members learn more about building safety career options.

This resolution shall take effect from and after its passage by the membership.

2017 BOAT  Resolutions

A RESOLUTION OF THE BUILDING OFFICIALS ASSOCIATION OF TEXAS CONCERNING JIM OLK, CITY OF GARLAND

WHEREAS, the Building Officials Association of Texas Board of Directors and its members are assembled at the Annual BOAT Conference in Rockwall, Texas, on August 8-11 2017; and,

WHEREAS, we do hereby pay tribute to BOAT past Board Member and past President, Jim Olk, City of Garland; and,

WHEREAS, this award recognizes his commitment and contribution to creating, expanding and continually improving BOAT’s Disaster Response Program; and,

WHEREAS, with Jim’s help, numerous team members have been recruited, trained and responded to disaster events throughout the State of Texas since the program’s inception in 2013,

WHEREAS, without the tremendous commitment and efforts from Jim, the program would not be as organized, responsive and productive as it is today,

WHEREAS, multiple communities have benefited from Jim’s leadership in assembling response teams, conducting damage assessments, and producing very important statistics;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that we extend our most sincere appreciation to Jim Olk for his contributions to the safety and security of the public in the built environment, and particularly when disaster strikes. This resolution shall take effect from and after its passage by the membership.

A RESOLUTION OF THE BUILDING OFFICIALS ASSOCIATION OF TEXAS CONCERNING KEITH SMITH, CITY OF MESQUITE

WHEREAS, the members of the Building Officials Association of Texas and its members are assembled at the Annual Business Meeting in Rockwall, Texas, on August 10, 2017; and,

WHEREAS, we do hereby pay tribute to retired BOAT member Keith Smith, City of Mesquite; and,

WHEREAS, this award recognizes his lifelong commitment and contribution to creating and sustaining healthy and safe communities; and,

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that we extend our most sincere appreciation to Keith Smith for his contributions to the safety and security of the public in the built environment. This resolution shall take effect from and after its passage by the membership.

2016 BOAT  Resolutions

A RESOLUTION OF THE BUILDING OFFICIALS ASSOCIATION OF TEXAS CONCERNING THE CITY OF MCKINNEY  AND RICK HERZBERGER, BUILDING OFFICIAL

WHEREAS, the members of the Building Officials Association of Texas and its members are assembled at the Annual Business Meeting in Sugarland, Texas, on August 2-5, 2016; and,

WHEREAS, those members here assembled on August 4, 2016, at the Annual Building Officials Association of Texas Conference and Business Meeting, do hereby pay tribute to the City of McKinney and Rick Herzberger, building official, for earning national accreditation by the International Accreditation Service (IAS), making the City of McKinney the third jurisdiction in Texas to receive this important recognition; joining the cities of Plano and San Antonio, Texas and,

WHEREAS, accreditation signifies that the city’s Building Inspections Department operates under the highest professional and technical standards; and,

WHEREAS, the IAS accreditation also verifies that the department is professionally qualified to provide a high standard of public safety; and,

WHEREAS, to achieve accreditation, the city’s Building Inspections Department underwent rigorous assessments to verify that it operates under the highest ethical, legal, and technical standards while providing enhanced life safety and property protection, now; and,

WHEREAS, we do hereby bestow honor upon the City of McKinney and Rick Herzberger, building official, for earning national accreditation by the International Accreditation Service (IAS);

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: that we extend our most sincere appreciation to Rick Herzberger and his staff for their untiring contributions to the safety and security of the public in the built environment. This resolution shall take effect from and after its passage by the membership.
